Central City hammers St. Paul
CENTRAL CITY — Abbie Hillmer led the way with a strong performance on the mound and a two-hit, six RBI night at the plate as Central City defeated visiting St. Paul 13-1 in just four innings of play.
Hillmer was dominant on the mound as she limited the Wildcats to just two hits, while striking out seven against just one walk, and drew praise from head coach Joyce Dexter.
“Abbie is an aggressive player,” Dexter said. “She’s just a good-natured gal, who just wants to play ball, and help the team anyway she can.”
Hillmer broke the game open in the third inning with a long bases-loaded double plating three runs. She would come up again in the fourth and clean the bases with another double ending the game via the 10-run rule.
The young Bison (6-=4) have now won four games in a row to improve their record to 6-4.
Dexter said she feels that a good part of that success comes from her only two seniors (Val Fousek and Abby Maresh), both of which are in their first year of varsity softball.
“Both girls are outstanding leaders, and have been the backbone of our defense.” Dexter said. “Val stepped right in and has been a strong presence at catcher, while Abby has been super at shortstop
