Rain, Rain, Go Away! We want to Play Softball!

This cover illustration for the Saturday Evening Post April 23, 1949 issue, painted by Norman Rockwell, is titled "Game Called Because of Rain."  The CCHS Lady Bison have gotten rained out of the two games scheduled for this week: Milford there, and the Triangular with Cozad and Holdrege at Cozad.  Hopefully it will be nice on Monday for the game at Silver Creek against Twin Rivers HS.

Homecoming Week, Bison Softball JV and Varsity Post Wins on Thursday, September 4

The Saint Paul Wildcats were no match for the Lady Bison as the JV won 10-3 and the Varsity won 13-1.  Lots of good hits, some walks helped, and good pitching by Emily B and  Abbie H.

Central City hammers St. Paul

CENTRAL CITY — Abbie Hillmer led the way with a strong performance on the mound and a two-hit, six RBI night at the plate as Central City defeated visiting St. Paul 13-1 in just four innings of play.
Hillmer was dominant on the mound as she limited the Wildcats to just two hits, while striking out seven against just one walk, and drew praise from head coach Joyce Dexter.

“Abbie is an aggressive player,” Dexter said. “She’s just a good-natured gal, who just wants to play ball, and help the team anyway she can.”
Hillmer broke the game open in the third inning with a long bases-loaded double plating three runs. She would come up again in the fourth and clean the bases with another double ending the game via the 10-run rule.
The young Bison (6-=4) have now won four games in a row to improve their record to 6-4.
Dexter said she feels that a good part of that success comes from her only two seniors (Val Fousek and Abby Maresh), both of which are in their first year of varsity softball.
“Both girls are outstanding leaders, and have been the backbone of our defense.” Dexter said. “Val stepped right in and has been a strong presence at catcher, while Abby has been super at shortstop
.
“They’ve really been a huge asset to our team.”s-st-paul/article_5573e19c-34b7-11e4-8cad-001a4bcf887a.html#.VAnli-gkzlg.facebook

Peeks of the Past

SOFTBALL.......It gets in your blood.  As young girls of 8 or 9 in our first softball games, we develop a love for the game that doesn't quit! I came across some photos of some of us in 2012....We've grown up a little!  Some of us have been playing competitive softball together for four or more years.  In 2012  our Xplosion team won first place at districts.  We really had a lot of fun!  I'd love to share some more early photos of our softball careers, so send me your old pictures!

JV/Varsity Lady Bison Win over Polk County August 26

The JV easily handled the Polk County JV with a 5-0 win.  Maddie M was the winning pitcher.  The varsity found it a little harder to claim the victory and the score was tied 4-4 several innings until the bottom of the 9th inning when Abbie H hit in the winning runs to make the score 6-4 in favor of the Bison.  Abbie was the winning pitcher and had 15 strikeouts in the 9 innings.  Everyone played better in both games, learning how to eliminate some of the errors and how to play together as a team.

The unofficial mascot for the girls is Watson, my grandparents' puppy.  Even Mr. Anderson says we have to have him at all the home games because he is our lucky charm.  Emily certainly likes him!
